How close are these two mtDNA subclades?

I am helping a friend with his Gedmatch match list.

This friend took a full-sequence mtDNA test at FTDNA and his mtDNA haplogroup is K1a-T195C!

He tested his maternal grandmother's autosomal DNA - she, of course, has the same mtDNA as he does - and uploaded her DNA to Gedmatch. One of his grandmother's autosomal matches included his full-sequence mtDNA haplogroup and it's K1a4a1a-T195C!.

I know a little about mtDNA, but I can't tell how close these are. I guess what I'm asking is - should I be looking for an autosomal DNA connection in the direct female line for these two OR are these subclades extremely different?

They're not matches at FTDNA.

Thank you!

Extremely different. The fact the the match's haplogroup name has more subdivisions (down to 4a1a) means that several mutations have occurred since that branch split off K1a.

APTurner - Thank you.

So because mtDNA tends to mutate so slowly, it's unlikely that this would've happened in the past 200 years. Am I right in thinking that?
