Haplogroup R-Z49 Surname Peck

Haplogroup R-Z49 Surname Peck

My 4th cousins are R-M269 but my haplogroup has now been updated/refined to R-Z49. I believe my paternal line is German but some family members think (maybe wrongly) that it is English. My earliest identified ancestor may have already been in the colonies in 1732 and we have not yet confirmed a date of immigaration for him or his family.

What does R-Z49 tell me?

Bob, I don´t think this Haplogroup can tell you exactly where your male ancestor came from. R-Z49 is a subgroup of R-L2 which is commonly considered Alpine Celtic. This tribe once inhabited the whole Alps region that belongs to Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France and Italy today. I´m R-Z49 too, and the oldest ancestor I've found was born 1740 in Freiburg, Baden, Southwest Germany.
