Hopefully, Ancestry will release the information which those who already have tested with them are waiting for - reference populations and raw data - when their product emerges from the beta phase. As a layperson, I can only offer that their current evaluation of ancestral origins seems a bit haphazard and quirky :)

If I understand the situation correctly, most of the independent researchers (except for Dr. Doug McDonald) who were providing admixture analysis currently are not accepting new submissions for their projects. Several of them have provided approximations of their utilities for use at Gedmatch.com, though, and these help to shed some light on distant ancestral origins.

I am looking forward to the enhanced analysis of admixture that 23andMe soon will be providing.
