LZ jr wrote me yesterday at 23&me that he found a match with my wife, alma that he was interested in pursuing.

It turned out to be pretty interesting.

here’s the data. alma vs lz jr, his dad lz sr and his mom ll.

introducing the Z family

Comparing alma williams& dad-lz sr

Comparing alma williams & mom-ll

Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs
1 104,567,702 107,696,599 3.0 910
2 218,452,148 220,405,731 3.3 728
10 21,070,586 25,157,747 3.8 1,244
10 54,833,427 59,613,240 3.5 1,711
13 37,775,306 39,905,169 3.4 897

Comparing alma williams & lz jr.

Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs
2 206,376,001 208,635,176 3.2 708
5 10,958,445 13,767,730 3.8 808
10 21,070,586 24,635,895 3.1 1,026

i think it likely that the segments on 2 and 10 are genuine-IBD and once part of 2 larger shared segments since both mom and son share them, #2 200M-220M & #10 20M-60M, the others are most likely IBS.

alma’s tree is really complete, all new england colonial, last immigrant in mid 1700′s, all lineages back before 1700, many back to essex england in 1500. plus when lz wrote he had a good idea of the connection-thomas draper, he was right.

LZ is Alma’s 13th cousin

mrca=Edmund Moodye R1b1a2 (1499 – 1562)

so that is alma’s mom’s moody lineage. but i connect as a 14th cousin to alma at nearly the same place through my pugh-critzer-graves.
so i figured LZ jr and i might have a small match as well.
we do. in fact, the biggest match of all is me and his dad-lz sr.

now my relationship to LL is far from clear, but it does lead to Ann Clark b 1710 in Tidewater VA from his side.

Clark, Alma’s dad was a Clark, but from Conn and colonial MA back to England, not colonial VA. or so i thought.

as it turns out Ann Clark is a direct descendant of William Clerke and Anne Cartwright 1535 in Kent England, the main reference point in Alma’s Clark lineage.

So LZ jr ‘s mom’s Clayton’s lineage tie directly into both of Alma’s main lineages-Clark and Moody, in time and space very near Thomas Draper. It is William A Clayton b 1815 that first has these genes from both lineages. That explains Alma’s connection ok and how multiple pieces came down to both her and LL. but what about my connection to the Z’s???

LL sr’s lineage is like mine, mostly immigrant, his mom is french and german, but unlike mine they know the lineage going back in europe. there are meiers, possibly a match with my breuers, but my paper trail isn’t anywhere near up to this. Likewise LZ sr’s dad’s lineage goes back into colonial NC and VA but i don’t see any common surnames. there could be a saunders lineage connection in VA, or a pierpont-robier french one and a breuer-meiers german connection but my data won’t bear such scrutiny. that’s a dead end for now.

it would really have been nice if my match on #10 was congruent with alma’s match to ll on #10, rats missed opportunity there. since that would boost the argument through thomas draper to the moodys.

as is the only almost large enough “real” match is untraceable. mine to lz sr’s 5.9 cM one.

i have a french dna sharing that ought to be compared to the Z’s french lineages someday.
...........
my question is---did i do this right? is there more information to be gained from this data? what else should i look for when comparing lineages looking for mrca? if anyone who is really experienced in this wants to teach me more and needs a closer look email me at rmwilliamsjr at gmail and i'll give you access to both private research trees at ancestry.
