I recently got my results back and have been playing with the surname search feature. I have discovered several trees with DeWitt's but my problem comes in between generation 6-7, it's like we just magically appeared in Missouri about 1824 poof with Peter DeWitt b.1824. The only clue we have to his father is a clipping that says his name was Simpson and a census that Peter listed his dads birthplace as Kentucky. All the DNA trees I link too have a gap and no connecting names I guess my question is do I match with these trees which go as far back as 1400's through an as yet unknown ancestor or is it just a surname match?
