Since posting the original message (see below), we have learned that my Dad's DNA results have "data issues". I hired a professional genealogist, who confirmed problems. In short, his Y-DNA is being re-run by FTDNA. For clarity, the problem was not with ancestry, however his Y-DNA 46 results were transferred from ancestry to FTDNA, where additional Y-DNA testing was done.

My kit, A049054, is fine. So sorry for the confusion and lack of timely followup.
