AncestryDNA and Gedmatch

AncestryDNA and Gedmatch

I have m Very High match in AncestryDNA that I have been trying to reach unsuccessfully. I cam across some DNA information of his in the Search program of Ancestry. In this information, my match supplied a Gedmatch kit number. I compared my kit number to his in Gedmatch as well as my mother and there was no DNA data sharing. I do not know what to do or believe. Does anyone have any answer to this situation? Several of my AncestryDNA matches do appear in Gedmatch but many do not perhaps because they have not sent their results to Gedmatch but this match had. So I am very puzzled.

First check to be sure you have the correct kit numbers. It's possible that the kit you found is for one or his relatives rather than himself. If you are sure of the numbers, then run each kit through the Diagnostic Utility at the bottom right of your Gedmatch home page. If they are all listed as without problems, run the 1-1 utility with each pair. If you don't get a match at the default settings, lower the threshols to 3 cM and 300 SNPs. Check to see if there are smaller segments separated by only a few cM. That could mean that they are actually a larger segment that has been split by Gedmatch's matching algorithm.

If none of these work, then you seem to have a real anomaly and I would then suggest that you ask your match to contact Ancestry and both of you email Gedmatch at Gedmatch@gmail.com.

I mange kits on both my husband & my lines so agree with jbarry6899 about why you might not match.
Another idea is to put your Gedmatch number in your tree so people can compare and contact you.
I made up a picture with a kit number in it for each of my main lines & it has been great for making contact. The picture says "My descendants have DNA tested & you can compare on GedMatch, kit # xxxxxx" & then I have uploaded that as my ancestor's photo on Ancestry.
Check out Clementina Wishart 1765-1855 born in Glamis Scotland as an example - also if you look at the picture you can see that others have attached them to their own tree.
