My father is deceased as is my mother. All his siblings are deceased.

I only have that one Johnson cousin (my dad's mother's side of the tree) who has a gedmatch kit. And that is pretty watered down as they are dad's maternal uncle's grandchild.

I don't have any close relatives on that side of the family who were willing to test.

I do have some ancestry matches on the known paternal (my dad's father's side) with gedmatch kits, but they are really distant cousins. And I was hoping to be able to create a Lazarus kit that would reflect the unknown Johnson side. Would it be beneficial to add those paternal gedkits?

I think you can give it a try. Any that you are fairly sure are paternal could make a contribution.

If I create a lazarus kit and leave the Unknown there instead of choosing either male of female, will it give me a composite of what my mom and dad would have been? If I choose female, will it only give a kit that would likely have mom's dna in it? If i choose male, will it only have dna that would likely be my dad's info?

I know I sound really dumb with these questions, but.....trying to learn as much as I can....

I am the only one in my family who is interested enough to work at finding out who our ancestors were on the Johnson side of our family. And with my health conditions the way they are, I'm not sure how much longer I'll have to do this research. I am hoping my children will see the benefit and use what I have garnered some day when they are a bit older.

thanks again for everyone's good help. I really appreciate it.
