Hi All,
For fathers day i bought the DNA test for my Dad. I have been researching our family history for years now and have traced back at least 10 generations on both sides.
My Dads side largely hail from a combination of Gloucestershire in England to Shropshire.
His DNA results however say yhat he is 100% European (expected) 50% Ireland and 38% Europe West.
Now there are traces of Iberian peninsula as well but that is 5% which i could put down to a distant ancestor but 50% Irish? this seems to be somewhat random as we have no Irish ancestry that we know of at all.
Can anyone explain what this means? Does 50% mean more recent Irish ancestry than we know about?
