How to get <1%

How to get <1%

What maximum result do I need to get in any region to record a <1%? Even if I recorded 1% in any of the tests, the end average would be more than 0% right?
For others who got <1%, what was your highest recorded percentage for that region?

My one trace region goes 0 to 3%.

I've read that there are 44 different analyses are run on the results of the DNA and then those analyses are averaged. So you can't really say what the maximum would be.

If one out of the 44 tests was 1% and all else 0%, that would average to 0% since they only use whole numbers not fractions.

Mathematically if one analysis came out 43% and everything else as 0% and that would average to less than 1%. However that is highly unlikely.

It could very well be what Ancestry DNA refers to as statistical "noise," meaning that such a small trace region is very likely not in fact part of your ancestry but just that based on the samples they have here, you may share a genetic marker with someone from that region.

Personally, I have <1% South Asian DNA in my results. I don't have any immediate "paper" ancestors from India, Pakistan, or any other countries in the South Asia region (my entire ancestry is European/Mediterranean). Also of significance is the presence of overlap between different adjacent regions. South Asia tends to overlap with the Caucasus region if you look at the explanations given, and according to my results, 10% of my DNA came back as "Caucasus."
