My husbands DNA results came back so different from what we had reason to expect that I had my DNA test done and it probably could not have been closer. I was brought up understanding that I was "all Irish" and even though I've determined the last of my Irish ancestors came to this country in the 1870's my DNA test predicted 94 % Irish ethnicity.
So we're both very puzzled about my husband's results. Research has been done showing that his 7g grandfather came to Quebec from Fribourg, Switzerland (close to the French border). He came with his French born wife and children.
His maternal grandmother came from Germany and his maternal grandfather's records (Census and Naturalization) show a variety of places - Austria, Bohemia and Czeckoslavakia.
So it would seem reasonable to think that my husbands ethnicity would be very much from "Europe West". Instead it broke down as follows:
Scandinavia 43%
Italy/Greece 24%
Great Britain 17%
Ireland 11%
There was not even a trace of "Europe West".
One could hypothesize reasons for this but I would like to start with if anyone has roots in Quebec, Canada and what kind of results Ancestry's DNA test returned. It appears that the DNA test is not available in Canada and I wonder if that means that Ancestry is not confident of predicting ethnicity for people born in Canada.
