According to my AncestryDNA Ethnicity Estimate, 67% of my DNA is from Great Britain and just 10% from Europe West, even though my (very complete) pedigree chart shows that most of my ancestors were from the Rheinland Pfalz region of Germany. I could just dismiss the Ethnicity Estimate as garbage, but I have another theory.
Excepts for the Celts who were there before them, most of the people in Great Britain are descendants of Angles and Saxons, i.e., Germans. What AncestryDNA labels as Great Britain should perhaps be labeled Germany or Europe West. I assume AncestryDNA chose the Great Britain label because many of the people in their initial samples were Mormons, and more Mormons are of English ancestry than of German ancestry.
Genetically, can you really distinguish between the Angles and Saxons who moved to Great Britain and the Germans who remained in Germany? Should there be a broader label that includes both?
