So I've gone through many posts online and I have seen a lot of people who have Native American in their pedigree but the DNA is not reflecting it. I have the opposite situation. My dad has Native American DNA but no story or records to go with that. He is mostly British Isles with Scandinavian (two of his grandparents are from Norway), with a little Irish and French/German, as well as small trace of Caucasus, and the Native American.
I've put my dad's DNA through the battery of admixture tests on GEDmatch and he comes up with a small but consistent Native American. Some of those tests can be further refined and they indicate Arctic-Amerind (as opposed to Mesoamerican and South American). He also has about the same amount of Siberian. The guy who does the Eurogenes tests seems to think the NA is real once I showed him all my dad's runs (it is just over and under 1% depending on the test, and that is just at noise level, so I had to ask).
The new Ancestry admixture also considers him to have trace Native American.
I also have trace NA in about 3/4 to 1/2 the amount of my dad (and the Ancestry DNA results shows zero, but then a range 0-1% when the box is clicked on). And sometimes it runs to zero on the GEDmatch admixture tests, so if I didn't have my dad's DNA to compare to I would have considered it just noise.
World9 Dodecad lists his primary sources as Dutch, Swedish, and German, and secondary population sources East Greenland (closest distance), West Greenland, Aleut, Athabaskan, Chukchi, Koryak.
The only thing I can figure is that the DNA is in line with a growing body of evidence that Saami (used to be known as Laplanders) share DNA with Native Americans and Siberians. For example:
http://www.pasthorizonspr.com/index.php/archives/12/2012/gen...http://pattyinglishms.hubpages.com/hub/Native-American-Natio...I guess it makes sense, as the Siberians, Arctic Amerinds, and Saami all share the Arctic. If this isn't the explanation behind his NA then I am at a loss.
Anyone else have Northern European DNA like my dad, with the unexpected NA??
