Today I saw a banner ad about DNA testing on my Ancestry.com home page that specifically pointed out that their testing would provide the user with info about ancestors going back "1000 years."
On the one hand, I doubt that anyone interested in exploring their genealogy is going to have any reilable info about their ancestors going back 1000 years without undergoing DNA testing and might jump at this chance. On the other hand, as you pointed out, the company likely lacks the ability to provide results that are somehow limited to info that only goes back 1000 years, even though their own ads give this impression. Perhaps they should change the wording to say "thousands of years," but I guess that might not be appealing to those customers seeking info about only those ancestors who lived in the genealogical time frame.
