Match with mother and daughter but more c.m. with daughter

I thought that you got your autosomal DNA in a sort of mixed way from your mother and your father. I assumed that you could only pass on to your child that which you yourself had received and not more than you yourself were given. I don't understand that I have a mother and daughter match at the same segment on the same Chromosome but the number of c.m.'s shared with the daughter is higher than with the mother. What am I missing, here?

Basically the daughter must have gotten a segment from her father that is adjacent to the mother's segment and it is a match to you. So it is either random coincidence that the DNA from her father matches you OR somehow you are also related to her father.

Most likely the mother and father are related. I see this all of the time..

If you can send me the kit numbers, I'll take a look and respond to you privately.

The other responses have mentioned the possibility of compound segments. In my experience, a more common explanation is what I called "fuzzy boundaries" in my 'Satiable Curiosity column in JoGG "Identity Crisis: Identical by State or Identical by Descent?"
