I like the new feature. Ancestry is trying. When they don't get something absolutely right at the start, they keep on, and it gradually improves. I did note that on one of my matches that the actual "match" appears to have been to another surname entirely. No problem. Ancestry offers trees, which the other sites don't, and (drum roll) it offers more participants. A lot more, for the lines I am focusing on. I don't even have to have chromosome matching (I'm not any good at that anyway). But what I do want--and they are almost there--is being able to determine which matches my matches have. I know, I know, they now have an option to send others your match list--and presumably, others will then reciprocate by sending you their own match list. But there is one Achilles heel in that new and otherwise wonderful addition. Not only does Ancestry send the match list, as you request, but in the process it sends your notes as well. Even if you are willing to send your notes to your matches, it is doubtful your matches will be willing to send you their own notes. Change that--it is certain your matches will not be willing to send you their own notes. Even your own mother wouldn't send you all the notes she has scribbled over the past few years, now, would she? I assume it is difficult to get the software working well enough as yet to exchange matches to our matches, without sending our notes as well--but I am hoping that someday it will be possible. In the meantime, I am grateful that Ancestry keeps trying to improve its product. It might not be perfect--but the other sites have their drawbacks as well. No one site has everything. And at least things improve all the time, sometimes imperceptibly so, sometime not.
