Wow! ONLY 1 hint?!

Upon further inspection, one of my new ones is a bust. :(
I've chatted with this cousin several times about our connection and the hint comes from one person in his tree that is also in my tree but our shared dna did NOT come from that person. My connection to the Ancestor is on my dad's maternal side and my connection to the cousin is on my dad's paternal side. NONE of my dad's tested maternal relatives match the cousin.
