86 seems like a lot for the first batch of results so take heart. As you go along you will find that most of your matches are going to be in the distant relations group but that's what makes all of this interesting and challenging. Who wants to do testing only to come up with a bunch of relatives that you already know?
You may find that your relatively low numbers of matches has to do with how recently your ancestral families arrived in this country. Those who have colonial ancestors generally have larger numbers of matches while those whose ancestors are recent immigrants will have relatively few matches.
As you go through your matches you will likely start to see some of the same surnames showing up more and more in the trees of your matches making it likely that you have a connection to a previously family that was previously unknown to you.
Your own mileage may differ but I was able to come up with more confirmed matches through my testing on Ancestry in my first week than I did in an entire year at FTDNA. As the other poster suggested, you should download your raw data and then upload it to gedmatch.com and/or transfer it to FTDNA if you want to drill down into the comparison of chromosomal segments.
