I think this was discussed in another thread a couple months ago. I recall the conclusion was that the "hints" are stored in index files. Perhaps the servers hosting some of those index files are down. I noticed that not all hints have disappeared. When you click on a match that should have a hint, that comparison between trees doesn't rely on the index file so the common ancestor still appears. I think the hints will eventually reappear.
