My dad and I were tested through National Geographic's Genographic Project (me Geno 1.0 and him Geno 2.0) and have our haplogroup results. We got a couple of nice surprises. Unfortunately, I'm missing my mother's father's haplogroup since I don't have any male relatives to test.
I am interested in moving on to autosomal testing and am interested in getting some feedback on pros and cons of the options. Please note that we are in Canada and are NOT able to test through Ancestry.com because they will not ship to Canada. That leaves us with 2 options: 23andme and FTDNA.
I'm not particularly interested in the medical aspect of 23andme's test so that aspect doesn't push me towards 23andme. Access to surname projects are not required either since the male line's last name is extremely rare. Other projects would be of interest if we can find relevant ones. Very interested in things I'm seeing in other threads like being able to use admixture tools, Gedmatch and ancestral/family matches although I'm not sure how many matches our family would find given our ancestry and the location of many participants.
If we were to do FTDNA tests which one/s would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.
ETA: What could my dad expect by transferring his Geno 2.0 info to FTDNA? Would it still be worth it to test him using another approach?
