Shari S. started a thread on a family surname board requesting that people share autosomal kit numbers they might have.
I thought that was a great idea and did the same on a family surname board. Here's the thing: In addition to my kit number, I would like to post a list of Ancestry.com usernames of matches that I have on that line.
Would this be an invasion of these people's privacy? Might it be acceptable if I omit those with private trees who have corresponded with me? How about those with public trees who have corresponded with me about a suspected shared ancestor not listed in their public trees?
I am thinking that as long as the tree is still public - some are not - it would be okay. If the tree is and always has been private, it's okay if I gathered supporting info from other public sources. In cases where those with private or public trees gave me information privately, I should ask permission first.
Your advice is appreciated. :)
