Jim, you are right about those with colonial ancestry having a much higher rate of success in finding matches with folks who have a paper trail.
I am currently up to 77 pages of matches through my Ancestry.com testing and thus far have been able to spot common ancestors in the trees of between fifty and sixty people at last count. I probably have another 30 or more who seem to share a small number of the same surnames but to whom I have been unable to find a connection to date.
In comparison, I have 34 pages of Family Finder matches over on FTDNA but have only been able to confirm four matches to date due to the limited ancestral information posted there or within the possession of those with whom I have corresponded.
