Hi Vivian

I am not sure if you got my second message yesterday. You responded to the first one very quickly, but I have not had a reply to my second one, so not sure if I messed it up and you never got it. My e-mail address is ianpeake@warwickshire.gov.uk

I would love to know more about my Great Step Grandfater & his family. I also have a cousin in Australia who is desperate to complete the full family tree and you may be able to help him.

Hello, I think we must be talking about the same Gibson Ingham. My father, Leslie, is Gibson's nephew he is 87 now and we live in Rugby. I think Joan must be your great grandmother, I met her many years ago when my sister Hilary and I visited her in Southend, also when my dad was 65 I think she came to his party with his sister Gladys. Please reply. Best regards, Vivian

My Great Great Grandfather was called Gibson Ingham. He was a sailor and lived in Yourkshre in a town called Todmorden. He married my Great Great grandma in the 20's. Her 1st husband died in WW1, her name was Shepherd. She had Francis, and then Joan & Margaret with Gibson. Joan is still alive, but Margaret is now dead. Joan has 2 girls, Kathy & Christine, both are still alive and live in Exxex. Not sure if we are talking about the same Gibson, he was born in Todmorden in 1892 I think, and passed away in 1970's. He wore a flat cap & clogs!

I'm new to this & noticed another message you wrote in 1999 but am not sure how to access it so haven't seen the whole message - mentions Theo & a Constantine?
I've attached a picture of the silk handkerchief Theo had w/ him when the Lusitania went down. (The numbers are wrong as I later found out)
Hi,
about Angela Pappadopoulo I have these news I would like to share with you. A few years ago I met here in Roma (Italy), Angela relatives and they told the right pronunciation of her husband's surname was Papadopoulos.
Angela Papadopoulos was born in Naples October the 26th 1883 by an italian nobleman and his mistress. When she was 18/20 she moved to Greece where she married Mr. Michael Papadopoulos a Greek citizen 11 years her senior and so she took the Greek citizen. The couple lived in Athens. He was a rugs merchant. They had at least 1 daughter and 1 son.
Angela survived the Lusitania sinking and moved back to Athens via Paris. She arrived in Athens on July the 15 th.
Due to Michael’s death, shortly after her back to Athens, she decided she could not continue his trade and so she moved back to Paris when she spent the rest of her life. In Paris she lived at 14 rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie.
In France she served as nurse during the First World War. In 1924 she married in Paris a Russian count refugee and she died May the 1st 1926 at 43. I think her children didn't survived to her, because she left heirs of her estate her stepbrothers.
My grandfather was Herbert Woods and one of the oldest children of John Herbert Woods and Margaret Cottrell. He was one of six children and his father John Herbert Woods died on the Lusitania in 1915 leaving his wife with 6 children. My grandfather was placed in the Liverpool Seaman's Orphanage until his mother could get back on her feet. John is my great-grandfather on my mother's side of the family. I do know that his parents were Alice Thorpe and James Woods, but that is all I know at this time-still doing research. I have a picture of my great-grandfather with his family before going on the Lusitania and "after" picture showing my great-grandmother with the children. I also have a picture of him on the Lusitania when he first started to work on it.

Are you still looking for a list of the crew of the Lusitania? If you are, you can find one here :
http://www.rmslusitania.info/

I had a great uncle who went down on her. Poor man was a trimmer, I guess he was down in the bowels of the ship and couldn't escape.

Regards

Kate

Hi Beverley
I sincerely hope you pick this up!
My grandfather was also on the lusitania and sadly he too perished leaving behing his young wife and small 3 year old son. He was returning to the uk, travelling on his own. His name was Percy (Thornton) Jackson. Percy's father was a William Jackson born in 1852/3.

Please feel free to contact me, perhaps there is a connection somewhere here!

Hello,
There was no "Henry Atkinson" on board the Lusitania and no rating of First Class Officer on the Lusitania. My first instinct was that this person might be Mr. Henry Adams, a 56 year old first class passenger whose body washed ashore and was numbered 237. His wife of one month, a Canadian, survived the disaster, but lost her senses due to the trauma of the sinking. She died not long after in an asylum. I believe that the person mentioned in 1933 was a recollection of a name over heard 18 years prior as there was no easy way to access the Cunard records as we can today. Hope this helps in your endeavour.
Brian

Book published in 1933 "Twenty Years A-Growing" by Maurice O'Sullivan about life in the Blasket Isles off the Kerry coast of Ireland states that body with ID of Henry Atkinson, London, first-class officer SS Lusitania, drifted ashore after sinking. Calling card was retrieved by police. I doubt O'Sullivan saw it the time because he was a boy then. He may have seen it later in the Twenties when he became a policeman himself.

The book, published by Viking Press here, was popular and reprinted three times in '33. Preface was by E.M. Foster, the famous English author. Even so, I haven't been able to locate Atkinson in the crew lists available on Google. The whole thing was probably cleared up at the time of publication, but I can't confirm that either. Perhaps someone reading this can.

We believe John Herbert Woods was married to Alice Thorp. The family story is that John was a stoker on the Lucsitania and Alice was expecting her 6th child (my husband's father) when the ship went down. There were two J. Woods on board, John and a James. It was said that Alice recieved a telegram to say J. Woods had survived but later got one to say he had drowned and it was James that survived. I followed up on this at the Maritime Museum in Liverpool and found he was listed in the deceased crew members and ws told his name is on the WW1 War Memorial at Tower Hill London.

My relative Sarah King died on the Lusitania in May 1915. On the passenger list it says she was being deported back to the UK. I would like to find out why she was being deported. I don't know exactly when she arrived in America, but she had a child Maria born in Sale, Manchester, England in 1912. The child stayed in Manchester with her grandparents Tommy and Maria King. I don't know what happened to Sarah's partner Michael Docherty (they never marrried).
Can anyone tell me where I can find out about deportations from the USA to UK in May 1915 or any other useful information. Many thanks.
