One of the things that I was made aware of concerning this disater was the good & the bad of humanity. There were a lot of troops on the train from CFB Petawawa which was a good thing in the sense of their valuable assistance to the many injured. On the other hand gasoline was being rationed at the time & ambulaces came to the scene from all over the area.
Some of these vehicles actually had the gas siphoned & stolen leaving them useless for transporting ithe injured. What kind of person could do this? I had not yet ben born but I did have relatives who were in the wreck & survived.
