According to the official reports the only crew killed were Conductor Thomas Finn and Fireman Nicholas Flynn. Engineer Burney excaped. The rest (97) were passengers. Unless Mr Smith was riding on the cushions that night and counted as a passenger this wasn't the train he was on.
