Died in Brooklyn, NY but death recorded in Boston

I am doing research on my Great x4 Grandfather William DeForest from Woodstock, NY. His death was recorded in a Death type cencus in Boston, MA in 1860. It stated he died at the United States Hotel in Brooklyn, NY from Dropsy.

My question is this: Why would they transfer his body from Brooklyn, NY to Boston and then back to Woodstock, NY (100 miles north of NYC) to be buried? Can anyone shed some light?

Thank you!
