I came across a death certificate (not researching the individual involved) with a term that I am unfamiliar with. I can make out the second cause of death as being "peritonitis", but the first is a mystery. "Salpic....?" See the attached image.

It might be helpful to know that the deceased was a female, 22 years of age, and the year of death was 1901. She was attended to at a Michigan hospital for 4 days duration.
