The following is a transcription of the newspaper clipping found among papers from my grandparents estate ; Title-EDDIE MILLER,58, VETERAN BLOUNT LAWMAN,BURIED Oneonta, Alabama-July 5-- [abt 1940-50?] Eddie Miller, 58, the former Blount County Sheriff who led the first big raid on the Bangor Cave gambling establishment in the 30's, died yesterday after a long illness. Miller was appointed Sheriff in 1937 & was largely instrumental in breaking up the gambling activities at the famed night spot. Miller was reelected twice, serving a total of nine & one-half years as sheriff. he was serving as a special state investigator at the time of his death. He was appointed a state investigator during the first Folsom administration & reappointed when Folsom took office again as governor. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the local Baptist Church. Officiating were the Reverend H. J. beasley & the Reverend Pryde E. Hinton. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lemley Funeral home was in charge. Surviving are six sons, a daughter, four brothers, two sisters & nine grandchildren.
