I have a great great great grandfather John Adam, born in Dublin in c.1799, he served in the Royal Navy from 6 July 1811 to 19 January 1817 and then was appointed a Chief Officer in HM Coastguard as a civilian Treasury appointee on 21 March 1822. Is this of any interest to you?
