Jesse Lee Stinson is my one of my paternal great grandfathers. His parents are Thomas W. Stinson and Sarah J. Cantrell. What I don't understand is why Thomas W. has the name Stinson and not Ellison since his father was James Paris Ellison.

Please help me clarify.
