Murder and Lynching. A White Man Assisinated by a Negro at Winona, Miss. Times-Picayune, New Orleans, LA, Feb 20, 1902. The Negro Who Loaned the Assasine a Pistol Lynched by Mob. Winona Miss, Feb 10.--Murdie Williams, son of a Baptist minister, was assasinated on the streets of this place last night by Tom Brown, a negro.
The tragedy is the result of a row at a negro dance which Williams as attending as a spectator. Brown had a dispute with John Arlington, another negro, when Williams interfered and knocked Brown down. Brown borrowed a revolver from Oliver Bibb, another negro, and waited for Williams on the streets, and when he appeared he shot him dead.
Brown escaped, and is being pursued by a large crowd. Oliver Bibb, the negro who loaned Brown the pistol with which he shot Williams, was lynched during the night by a mob of unknown men. The mob went to Bibb's house, called him out, and when he appeared, riddled his body with bullets.
