Looking for information on one Thomas Pinckney/Pinkney Bowman, accused of the murder of his wife by poison in 1876/1877. I can find no record of her first name but Bowman stated her last name was "Cannon"; in fact the daughter of "Ruben/Rueben Cannon" in a newspaper interview at the time. I'm seeing trial records, as well as a photograph of Bowman's corpse which was supposedly taken in Greensboro, NC by W.P. Hughes. Additionally, a member of Bowman's household - unknown if blood relative - by the last name of "Dill/Dell/Deals" supposedly made a deathbed confession to poisoning Mrs. Bowman, years after Thomas' execution. Thomas Bowman and his wife had at least 6 children, only one of which, still a young child at the time of the execution, survived and received at least some measure of financial support through the sales of news stories. Supposedly Mr. and Mrs. Bowman are buried side by side in Rockingham County, in graves marked only by large rocks. Thomas stated he was the son of "Riley" and Susan Bowman - he may have been the grandson of one "John Anderson Bowman". It should be noted that Thomas Bowman states he was originally from "Gibbs County, GA" - but there is no record of any such county in GA, either now or in 'defunct' county listings. During Thomas' lifetime, he states that he and his wife went back and forth from the "Bowman Plantation" in Georgia and NC. Any information or leads would be deeply appreciated.
