Surnames: Daniel, Rogers
I just found out from my grandmother that her grandfather (my 2nd great-grandfather) Marcus C. Daniel (b. 6 May 1859) was shot dead by a man who sold him "bad whiskey". Apparently my 2nd great-grandfather Marcus confronted the man about the whiskey and an argument ensued. Grandma said that her father went "to court every day" for the ensuing murder investigation. The shooter's last name was Rogers. All this occurred when she was about 5 years old (abt 1939). I can't seem to locate a death certificate or any information about this. I did find on FindaGrave.com that it attributed his death to "gunshot to the head". This was in Casey County, Kentucky. Shouldn't there be court records and even newspaper articles about this?

Yes there should but have you looked the pre internet searching way? Death Certificates are miss filed or to faded or destroyed by nature. Newspapers that old need to be scanned and uploaded to the Internet and not all papers are as yet. So the pre Internet way is to write a letter or call the local county or city library and ask for the reference desk. Ask them to look up the incident and send you copies of articles. There will at least be a fee for copies. Now you can be a little more modern and not use snail mail but send an email and maybe even pay electronically.
You can also contact a local Historical or Genealogical Society for a look up.
Have you seen these websites....?
http://usgenweb.org Click on the state you then the county you are researching.
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov Maybe a newspaper that has an article is here.
Both are free to use.
