Thanks! It confirmed what I thought. There seems to be some dispute amongst relatives as to whether James Haycraft was transported to the new world on the Justitia. I think you've added evidence to prove it.

In reply to Joel Harris, who queried about this in 2003: I'll check my own records, but I think that Smytheman (Justicia, May, 1744) was one of a quartet of convicts who had operated together - 2 men, 2 women. I'm working on the Robinsons, Wm and Elizabeth (my ancestors), but I've got the entire convict list.
Let me know quickly if you get this - I'm leaving for England soon to do more research.

Does anyone have any information on WHERE the convict ship Justicia was bound in May 1744? The prior voyage of that ship was into the Chesapeake, apparently -- I'd love to know who/how that is known.
Has anybody found any documents recording the sale of convicts from the Justicia in 1744?

I am researching Samuel Smytheman/Smitherman/Smotherman and the Justitia. How could I get a copy of the original list showing him? Thanks Barb

I have not seen an original ship's list for the Justitia. If you find one, let me know.
