I've recently discovered that some of my ROGERS family were transported from Somerset, England to Van Dieman's Land, Australia in 1842, as follows:
Benjamin ROGERS, bap 14 May 1812, Wedmore, Somerset, Mason; convicted and sentenced to 15 years at Wells General Quarter Sessions on 21 Mar 1842; transported 14 Aug 1842 aboard the Moffatt from Plymouth to VDL, arriving 28 Nov 1842.
George ROGERS, born circa 1820, Wedmore, Somerset ; convicted and sentenced to 15 years at Wells General Quarter Sessions on 21 Mar 1842; transported 14 Aug 1842 aboard the Moffatt from Plymouth to VDL, arriving 28 Nov 1842.
Sarah ROGERS (nee GILLARD - widow of James ROGERS), born circa 1800, Drayton, Somerset; convicted and sentenced to 14 years at Wells General Quarter Sessions on 21 Mar 1842; transported 02 May 1842 aboard the Royal Admiral to VDL, arriving 24 Sep 1842.
Benjamin, George and James ROGERS were brothers of my 3G Grandmother, Elizabeth ROGERS (bap 8 Feb 1809, Wedmore, Somerset) who married Isaac HEMBRY/HEMBURY on 29 May 1832, Wedmore, Somerset.
I still haven't discovered what crimes the ROGERS's had committed, and have been unable to find out what happened to them after they arrived in Tasmania; any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best wishes,
Sue
