I haven't found anything on Eliza being a convict yet, but George certainly was. He came over on the Strathfieldsaye in 1836 under the name George Wrankmore. At some point before he married Eliza he dropped the 'W' from his name. He was sentenced to 7 years for stealing his own toolbox in Bristol. I think he got his ticket of leave in 1840.
