My gtgt grandmother's first husband served in the 51st Regiment, arriving in Tasmania n 1838. He was medically discharged and in 1845 became an Assistant Super. of Convicts on Norfolk Island.

In a bid to learn what ship he arrived on I have searched the ships arriving in 1838 but it seems the 51st regt arrived on numerous ships and seldom do you see the names of the soldiers.

If you have any info on your ancestor's arrival, ie the ship, could you pass it on to me.

Any help is gratefully accepted. His name was John McDivitt/McDavid.
