While the Lamond family originated in Scotland, by the late 18th century, it was located in Connaught. James was accused of being a member of the United Ireland rebel group in 1798 and was punished with transportation to Australia. He arrived there aboard the "Ann" in 1801.
Our family story is that "some one of them" had been sent to Australia. Judging from the time period, he might have been an uncle to my great-grandfather. I don't know how to find research sources in Australia and am not even certain where exactly James was sent upon arrival. I do know that a number of Lamond/Lammonds appear in various city directories. Where would I begin?
