I am a descendant of John Hall and Mary Rochester who married at St Matthews, Windsor on 23 Sept 1822. John was free at the time of his marriage and Mary had been born in the colony in 1803. I am trying to ascertain whether John Hall was born in Aust or when he arrived. John Hall was one of the first to take up a Pastoral Licence in 1836 on the Castlereagh River between Gulargambone and Coonamble. I believe Mary Hall, nee Rochester, died in Bathurst around 1826. John did not remarried & died in 1841 leaving one son, James, born 1823.
My research to date would suggest that he is either:

1.John Hall, a convict per 'Earl Spencer' 1813 who was granted a conditional Pardon in 1818. The musters show that in 1818 he was working for Mr Cox at Bathurst; in 1822 employed by Mr Cox in Windsor; in 1825 employed by Mr Tindall, Bathurst and in 1828 employed by Mrs McQuirey (Macquarie?) at Nandowrey, 134 miles north of Bathurst.

or
2. John Hall, son of John Hall, a convict per 'Alexander' 1806. John, together with mother Jane Hall & siblings, accompanied their convict father on the 'Alexander' in 1806. This John is not listed on any musters or the 1828 census that I can see. Although it appears he received land grants in 1816 and again in 1821 at the same time as his parents John and Jane Hall. This land appears to be at Evan.

My feeling is that the first option fits best given John Hall per Earl Spencer's work in Bathurst and the indication that his wife died there about 1826.

I am looking for any assistance which can provide some assurance as to the correct identification of John Hall. Perhaps there are other descendants of either which may help
