Hello.

I'm writing a family book , and wondered what was happen with some of my family that left for the US.

Lars -Lewis Helgesen born in 1847 in Sigdal in Norway left together with his 1. cousin Thore Thoresen born in Norway 1858. They left in 1884 to Chippewa Falls.

I believe that they must have been there in 1890th also , because Thore's two brothers Ole Thoresen born 1860 and Gunnar born in 1896 also left to the same place;Chippewa Falls in 1891.

Thank you for any help.

Hello Kim.
Thank you for your help.

My Lars Helgesen was born 12.25.1847, and my Thore Thoresen was born in september 1858.

So I think your was wrong. It could be that they change their names or left to other places, or even died before 1900.
But I'm pretty sure that Lars Helgesen or Thore Thoresen was living in the area in 1890 census, becouse two brothers of Thore left for the same placec in 1891.

Thank you for helping me!!

Tormod

Hei Kim.
I did find out some more.
Ole and Gunnar Thoresen left from Oslo sept.4.1891. Gunnar used the name Torrissen, and Ole Toresen.

They got a third man also from tthe same area: Guul Eriksen born in 1866. Guul could very often be Gilbert.

Thank you for any help.

Tormod

I did not mention earlier but there is no images or info available for the US 1890 census. There was a fire and what did not get burnt was thrown out. So that said, Most of the names that match or could be a possibility dont match with the immigration...For instance there are numerous Toresons, THoresons etc....but they are in the 1880 census which could not be for your family.
I did find this one but i dont think he is yours because he was with his family and he had a wife and 7 children and the two oldest children were 16 and 14 and were also born in Norway the rest of the children were born in MN.

about Ole Toreson
Name: Ole Toreson
Census Date: 1895
County: Otter Tail
Locality: Fergus Falls Ward 1
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Male
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1855
Race: White
Line: 1
Roll: V290_80

I have searched down numerous possibilities and cant find anything that would be close to the men u mentioned. One of the major problems is that when census were done the information is not always reliable.. It depends on 1. Who is giving the info ( was it a neighbor? or someone in the house that may not know the correct info?)
2. What the census taker wrote....most of the time the census taker would spell the names as he heard them.
3. And then of course is just human error.

I really wish i could have found something for u there are tons of Thoresons in Wisconsin. I hope u find the info u r looking for..................KIM

Hello Kim.
Thank you for helping me. I understand that's pretty difficult to find the right Thoresen or Helgesen. Theu could also have left from the area between 1891 and 1900.

I know that it is a Historical Society in Chippewa Falls. Do you know any e-mail adresses.
It could be that some of them knows about some Norwegian descendant , even some of themselves.

Thank you.

Tormod

Hello Kim.
None of them are familiar. Thank you for trying to help me.

Is it some Tora Kristiansdaughter there in 1900 census born in Norway 1892?
It could be Tora Christiansdaugter.

Thank you.
