Im trying to find out who was the original family/ people that lived in my house. Does anyone knows if there is a way to search census records based on an address?
Cheers!

It might be easier to check with the County Clerk's office to see if they will do a search on your property description and give you the name(s) of former owners.

Depends on the area and the year. What is the address and the timeframe in which you are interested?

The poster who said you have to check with your county clerk is correct...but you will have to do the research yourself (unless you want to pay them a great deal of money). It is just like genealogy research in that you are following the chain of ownership....step by step, starting with the most recent. The best way is to find an index of grantors (the ones selling the property) and grantees (the ones buying the property). Then you can take that information and find the actual deeds and mortgages The grantor/grantee index can easily be found at any courthouse and there may be several books spanning many years (depends on how large/small your town is). You will be amazed at how little the former owners paid for your house!!!

I have done this before on my old Victorian home and then done a tad bit of genealogy on the folks who owned the house prior to me. I found it an interesting endeavor and felt a little "closer" to my home and the people who lived there. Another thing I did was to put my address into some of the old online newspaper subscription sites and find out if anything happened at my address. My neighbor and I had always had a good laugh about there being a ghost in my house -- a female we always said, and it was sort of creepy when I found that a woman had died in the front bedroom of the home in the early 20s.

It was great fun and I highly recommend it.
