Can anyone tell me just what state this census is in, particularly Ontario. For US Censuses, digital images in the public domain are available for the complete censuses from the 1st (1790) to the 15th (1930). I am using these images and posting them on my family tree website.
I assume the originals for the 1861 All Canada Census were paper returns. I'm pretty sure they were microfilmed because digital copies exist on Ancestry.com and they certainly appear to be digitized microfilm as opposed to scanned paper. But, that is a pay site and I'm not going to use images from there unless someone can tell me I can do so.
Does anyone know whether and where the microfilm exist? Are they accessible by the general public? Are copies available for inter-library loan? If so, to the United States?
In short, is it possible to get digital images somewhere, somehow that can be posted on a personal website?
