I'm hoping someone can help. What is the meaning of Race in 1861 census in New Brunswick. Specifically, my ancestors are listed as NATIVE. Does this simply mean they were born there or that they were of Native ancestry as we now think of it - i.e. First Nation people or of mixed heritage.

Any ideas?
