Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
Hello- I have been trying to research my grandmother's side of the family. what I have been told is that Wirttie Dehart Hall of Christiansburg Va was the daughter of Bernard Elijah Dehart born April 1 1870 and died December 1961. I have two newspaper clippings. One is a long article about him and his life the other is the obituary. There is some speculation as to whether or not my great grandmother Wirttie Hall was adopted by some other family or not. I've attached the obituary which indicates that services will be conducted at the Webb and Neal Funeral Home Chapel and burial at the Mount Tabor Cemetery. I have no idea where these two places are but would LOVE to find out more about that side of the family if you have any info. THANKS

Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
I was just told an error occurred when I tried to send this post. I will try again. Bernard Elijah DeHart was my great grandfather. He lived above his son, Buck, at Crab Orchard, WV. I remember he could grow an awesome garden. I remember my grandfather, Hershel Jackson DeHart, talking about Wirttie.
These are my great grandfathers children that I remember: Hershel Jackson DeHart deceased of Aiken SC Clyde DeHart deceased of Beckley, WV Buck DeHart deceased of Crab Orchard WV Billie Dove DeHart Abrams deceased of Beckley WV
Their children are: Hershel Jackson DeHart married Sybil Stump (Hershel and Buck married sisters) Billie Jean DeHart Williams deceased of Mabscott WV (my mother) Robert DeHart of Aiken SC Clyde DeHart of Jackson (New Ellenton) SC Ted DeHart of North Augusta SC Glen DeHart of Greenville SC
Buck married Dora Stump. He had a son prior to marrying Dora but I cannot remember his name Patsy DeHart ? Elaine DeHart ? of Beckley WV Pamela DeHart ? Renee DeHart ?
Clyde married ? The children I remember are: Mack Ray Bernard deceased of Beckley WV Patricia Brammer of Beckley Wv
Billie Dove DeHart Abrams Pat DeHart of Oak Hill, WV
Webb and Neal is a funeral home that was in Beckley I think. Mt Tabor Cemetary is outside of Beckley in Mt Tabor WV
Hope this helps.'

Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
Wirtie was not adopted by anyone. Great Grandpa DeHart had 2 families. He was married prior to marrying my great grandmother, Roxie Christian DeHart. I have a cousin who knows a lot more about this because he spent a lot of time with Grandpa DeHart. Wirtie was my grandfather's (Hershel) half sister.

Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
WOW! yes it does. So that makes him my great great grandfather. Which I wasn't exactly sure about. It's the side of the family I know the least about despite traveling there in the summer. Everything was so hush hush when I tried to find out.
I also read the other post about Wirttie not being adopted. Did she actually grow up with your grandfather (Hershel). If she was young that may be what my grandmother Brownie meant. I do know she (Wirttie) was in Christiansburg Virginia, seems like he moved and the second family resided in WV.
I searched records in the basement of the record hall down in Christiansburg but there wasn't really anything to go on from that far back. Wirttie was born in 1892 and married at age 16 and I don't think records were much of a big thing back then.
If you speak with your cousin and are able to find out additional info regarding the first family (mainly-the maiden name of his first wife) I would sincerely and greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again so much for the info.

Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
Hi, I'm Karen's cousin whom you have had communication with concerning Elijah Bernard DeHart. My dad is his grandson. You mentioned in one of you postings that you had an article about him and his life. She sent me a copy of the obituary. Could you please send a copy of the article about him as well. We, also, would be very interested in knowing more about him. Daddy said that he did have two seperate families and he would like to know more about the first wife (Wirtie's mother). If we find anything out we will let you know. Unfortunately, most of the people in the know are deceased. There are a few who did know both families. Thanks, Diana

Re: Calfee Cemetery Raleigh West Virginia
I spoke with my cousin concerning Grandpa DeHart's first family. He and I will get together later and I will get more information. He is looking to see if he has anything about Grandpa DeHart's first wife. Her name may have been Mary..? He did tell me that he remembers the children from the first marriage were Maimee, Pearl, Clarence, and Wirtie. Wirtie was not adopted, but Grandpa DeHart's sister, (he did not know her name) raised Wirtie. Wirtie Hall's daughters were Brownie, Geneva, Kathleen, and sons, Clarence, and Hershey. There were probably more...you may know more about her children. Hershey was killed?...is this correct? Pat (my cousin) remembers that Brownie had a son whose name was Don. Kathleen, (Brownies sister) and her husband, George Sowers (Sauers?) let him stay with them. George worked for the power company as an accountant or bookkeeper and later retired and worked keeping books for a used car lot. Geneva was diagnosed with Altzhimers. She and Buck (Grandpa DeHart's son from his second marriage) used to love to dance. Pat said she would come up and they would go out dancing. Wirtie lived right behind Kathleen in Christiansburg, Va. I believe there was a daughter that used to stay with her....not sure about that though.
Pat and Grandpa DeHart used to go down there. They went to Maimee's and Pat remembers there was a picture taken of all the generations...Grandpa DeHart, Maimee and her son, her sons daughter, and the daughters son. Five generations.
Grandpa DeHarts father had a farm in Virginia. Do you know anything about him? Do you know his name?
Pat also said that no one knew what happened between Grandpa DeHart and his first wife. The only thing Grandpa DeHart would say was that they agreed to disagree.
Pat only knew two brothers of Grandpa DeHarts...George and Bill. I think it was George that had a son named Goodman. Grandpa DeHarts son, Clyde (from the second marriage) used to go and see them twice a year. Goodman and his son were killed in a car wreck. Goodman's wife was Elizabeth.
Hopefully you will be able to put some of this information together with what you have. This is just bits and pieces, but maybe it will help.

This is about the 5th time that I am trying to post and attach the article, I keep getting an error message. I'm sure eventually it will make it and if for some odd reason all of them end up on here... sorry.
