very interesting stuff. I do have some info to fill some of the holes.
Ella was Elijah's sister. She raised my great grandmother Wirttie. Not sure who wirttie's mother was. According to my mother (wirttie's granddaughter Carolyn) she never spoke of her. It is sort of an odd mystery why her mother didn't raise her and her father didn't "fetch" her so to speak when he remarried. It was always thought that her mother died. Wirttie got married at 16 years of age stating once to my mother that she got married so that she could be out of "that" house. She said if she was going to be treated like a house maid it would be in her own home.

I remember all too well the house that Wirttie lived in. I also remember running across the yards to my aunt Kathleen and Georges house to sit on the porch and count the train cars EVERY single time when we heard the engine blow.

There were a total of 7 children that my great grandmother Wirttie had - Brownie (my grandmother) I am actually named for both of them. The BRO from Brownie and TTIE from Wirttie = Brottie.

So the 7 children were-

1- Brownie Virginia Hall - Married Creighton Correll - they only had one child, my mother Carolyn

2- Geneva - she lived with Wirttie and shortly after Wirttie passed is when Geneva (also known as aunt gig) started to get really bad. She was my favorite a real hoot to be around. Loved to laugh and joke. many fond memories

3- Kathleen - yes indeed married to George Sowers

SONS were-

4- Clarence - married Maxine and had a daughter named Pat - both mother and daughter died of the same thing - ovarian cancer. Clarence still lives in Christiansburg very hard of hearing and can't see to well either.

5- Hercy - yes he died when he was very young in a mining accident. He was my grandmothers favorite and she always believed there was fowl play involved.

6 - Guy- died when he was 18 months old not sure of what.

7 - JB- don't know much about him except he was a mean SOB and nobody got along with him. He moved to Philadelphia. He was also the father of DON who was raised by aunt Kathleen and George. But the way my grandmother told it is that Wirttie did most of the raisin'.

I vaguely recall both my Aunt Geneva and my grandmother Brownie talking about taking the train somewhere to go dancing. I talked to my mother to see if she could remember any names etc. She did recall someone talking about someone named Buck. My mother also had no idea that there were that many siblings from the first marriage.

I know very little about anyone other than Wirttie. Alot of it seemed very hush hush and a mystery. That is why I am seeking the info. So far it is facinating to know that there are others out there albeit from the other half and that somehow we are connected.

I do greatly appreciated all the digging.
THANKS,
Brottie
