My gg-grandfather was in NC 53rd Inf, G company, winter quarters near Orange Co., VA courthouse, Dec-Jan, 1863-64. He was executed on Jan.15, 1864 for desertion. Does anyone have any idea how I can find his burial place? Certainly other soldiers died during that winter of disease, and they would have been buried somewhere in that area as well. Would it be likely to be in an unmarked grave in a field, or a nearby church yard? Name: Joshua Pruitt.
