Memphis was founded 1819 and incorporated 1826. Most people were buried in church yards or family burial plots on farms. Winchester family cemetery later became the burial place for others as well, but it was taken up since it was in the way of dowtown expansion. I think most of the graves were moved to Elmwood Cem, which was founded in 1852 and is the oldest active cemetery in Memphis today. They have extensive records and you might try contacting them. The oldest marked cemetery in Memphis is the family cemetery of the Bettis family which is no longer active, is in bad shape, and a preservation group is looking into moving those graves to Elmwood as well.
