My great grandfather Frank Vance of Abbeville, S.C. died about 1918; he was a longtime residence of the area. According to the death certificate he was buried at some cemetery called Gorden/Gordon Cemetery. Does anyone have any idea where this is, and how I can really locate the place? Anything you can say about it, I appreciate it. Thanks.

Look around at http://rootsweb.ancestry.com/~scoconee/Cemetery_GPS/01-abbev...

We may know the cemetery by another name...

I am fairly familiar with most of the cemeteries in Abbeville County. Have you found any more information on the cemetery? I have never heard of it, nor have I found it.

I was stating that during my research on the vance family I never hear from anyone connected with the family of frank vance my great grandfather who died in 1918. So often I send messages to abbeville but no one answers. Frank vance daughter Mary my grandmother married Joe Evans. Their children were John my father also ike and their sister Josue.

Do you know anything about their children or would you like for me to check into this. I know some Evan's, but to be honest these names don't ring a bell.

I'll be glad to try to do whatever.

Dear Mr. Vance,

I am researching Simon Burton and Elizabeth Gordon Burton of Abbeville. I don't know if you are African American but they were. Lizzie and Simon resided next door to Jane Gordon most of their lives and until Jane's death in 1902. They continued to remain in their home after the place was sold to William Milford. I have never been able to find their graves. Mr. Milford's descendant was kind enough to speak with me and he indicated that there is an old overgrown cemetery on what was the Gordon property. This property lies at the intersection of Rt 20 and 201. It actually lies on 201. I was in Abbeville last year and drove back Cold Springs Church Rd. which is where Mr. Milford thinks the cemetery is located (or thereabouts).

I am returning to Abbeville on June 13. Locating this cemetery is on my list and I was wondering if you had made any headway with your search for the Gordon Cemetery.

Best regards.

I see you are Mr. Evans, not Mr. Vance. My apologies for the error in my next message.
