Abraham "Dock" Sproul died 1931 in Dallas, Polk Co., OR. Family tradition states he "rests in a little cemetery south of Independence Oregon". Would someone have the name or names of cemeteries in this area? Thank you.

Independence Cemetaries/Polk Co., Oregon

The cemetary south of Independence, Polk Co., is the IOOF cemetery of Independence. I contacted the Mortuary in Independence I believe it is Keeney Funeral Home. They were able to give me a plot location of an ancestor of mine.

Probably Hill Top, formerly IOOF. Can't find a listing but local mortuaries are Farnstrom, 410 Monmouth, Ind. 97351; Bollman, 694 Main, & Dallas Mort. 287 SW Washington, both zips 97338. Records at Hill Top aren't the best, so this way is more likely to get results.

Hill Top Cemetery, Independance
Hill Top Cemetery is not very big, but bigger than some that I've seen. The Mortuary in Independance, Polk County, OR, is great for helping with getting copies of records. The woman who helped me, in June of 1999, even gave me directions on how to get there (it's not very easy).
It looks like it is still in use, btw. There were some pretty recent gravesites there, as well as a lot of older ones. My Great-Grandfather, William Warren Weatherby, was buried in 1953. It was called Hill Top at that time. I believe that it still is.

I checked my "Polk County Cemeteries" book, vol 3: Hilltop Cemetery District; published by Polk County Genealogical Society for your Abraham Sproul. I found the following: SPROUL, Abraham C., b. 1856 d. 1931; Lot 206, Sp. l; Mary W. b. 1873 d. 1961, Lot 206, Sp. 2. If you think they are yours you can also send for their death cert by email from the Oregon State Archieves for .25. Happy hunting, Joyce

Re: Independence Cemetery
I am looking for the graves of Harry Timothy Hayes (died 1943) and his son, Timothy Milton Hayes (died 1946), family records say they were both buried at the IOOF cemetery in Independence, Polk, Oregon. I have been unable to find any information on Findagrave.com or several other search results on the web. I have been told that I have three other siblings buried there, all dying at or close to their birth dates, Stanley (died 1934), Carol (died 1936) and James (died 1937). All with surname of Hayes. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
