I am not sure how close you live to Harrison, but I am pretty sure that John Fredrick Deaker (or Fredrick Johan) is buried in lot 30 of Woodlawn Cemetery with his wife Ann and daughter, both of whom prededed him in death. In the cemetery record book for lot 30 there is a lot marker that has the initials J. H. D. Jr. along with the grave stones for the two women. Apparently there is not a gravestone for Fredrick. Do you have any way of finding out who to contact at the cemetery to see if there is a record there of burials? Do you know if Harrison had its own newspaper in 1917 when J. H. died? I checked the Cincinnati Enquirer and found a death notice but no obituary. What about undertakers in Harrison? Are any records available? Thank you for offering to take a picture at the cemetery. I would love that. Should I put a request on find a grave?

Thanks for your helpful advice. We came home from vacation through Cincinnati last week and I was able to visit the library and look at the Woodlawn Cemetery listings. Anna Deaker was the wife of (John) Frederic Deaker and her gravestone is listed there on a plot with a marker, "J. H. Deaker, Jr.". I am assuming that this is where Fred is buried. I was not able to go to the cemetery or to the library at Harrison, but I will contact the library to get the name of the person who has the official burial records to see what they can tell me. I checked the newspapers, but only found a death notice, not an obituary. But I will try to look further. I am hoping that some of the Cincinnati newspapers are on line.

(Becoming a "volunteer" is easy and you don't receive junk mail after joining.) Once you create memorials for them you can place a request for each one and volunteers near the cemetery will be automatically notified. Do keep in mind that there might still be snow on the ground.

Hi, hoping some kind person can help with my request. I think some relatives of mine are buried in this cemetery. I have used the look up service on their website and located the graves that I'm interested in, but I am wondering if there is anyone living nearby who could go and check them for me and possibly take a photo or two.

The graves I am interested in are in Section 20 and 21 near to the Foley Road entrance. They are the Gartner family, Mary and Herbert and their son Charles. have the grave numbers and all relevant information if needed.

Would appreciate any help that anyone could give me.
According to Electa L. Norton's death certificate - www.familysearch.org - she died 5 Jan 1916 at Zanesville. But she was buried in Rutland, Meigs County, which is also where she was living, apparently alone, when the census was taken in 1900. Unfortunately there is no mention of the cemetery.

I went to www.familysearch.org and queried the surname DEAKER for deaths in Harrison, Hamilton, Ohio. Fredrick Deaker's death certificate is listed (you can download a copy), but no cemetery was listed on the certificate. In addition to Fredrick there are two women, Carolin Deaker, single female, born 1869, died 9 Dec 1958 and Amelia Deaker, single female, born 1877, died 11 Sep 1962.

Next, I went to www.findagrave.com and searched for DEAKER entries in Hamilton, Ohio. There are two women listed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Harrison, Hamilton, Ohio. See http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSln=De... It's possible there are additional Deaker burials at the cemetery that are not listed yet.

Last, I googled the cemetery and visited the Hamilton County, OHGenWeb page listing cemeteries in the county - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohhamilt/cemeteries.html Woodlawn readings appear in the Hamilton County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society (HCCOGS) published cemetery records and reading--Vol. 14 You might be able to find someone to do a lookup for you. I know the Cincinnati Public Library has all of the "cemetery books," they are also available at the Ohio Historical Society Archives Library, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and the Allen County Public Library (Ft. Wayne, IN). You can get links to all of the libraries by searching for them on Google or your favorite search engine.

Harrison Township has a great page with a location and history of the two cemeteries that they maintain (Baptist and Woodlawn) - http://www.harrisontownshipohio.com/cemeteries.html It's possible the might have a list of burials, too. You can contact them.
Just ask the person who put them up. I do not have any pictures at this cemetery, but overall I have over 10,000 pictures posted, mostly in central and Northern Ohio. I have always let people copy any they want for personal use. So will almost all of the people that have posted pictures. Just use the link below the picture. Doesn't hurt to ask

Gary R. Good
OhioGraveStones.org

You might try Orwell North Presbyterian Church or the St Mary's Catholic Church depending upon what religion your Porter family was. Each church has a separate part of the Orwell North Cemetary which is of course owned by the Orwell Township trustees. Come to think of it you might also try there as they probably have the records. Just try

Orwell Township Secretary
Orwell, Ohio 44076

Hi, I found some information on St. Peter's in "A Guide to Genealogical Resources in Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Ohio, 6th Edition." It says:

St. Peter's aka German Cathholic Cemetery aka German Catholic Congregation - removal of entire cemetery made in 1882 to St. Joseph (New) Cemetery and others, when site was developed as St. Francis Hospital. Land was originally purchased on 14 January 1843. - Extinct

I noticed your post said you searched St. Joseph Old Cemetery. You might want to check St. Joseph New Cemetery website at www.stjoenew.com. It has a searchable database.

This book also has information on Catholic churches in Cincinnati.

St. John the Baptist, organized 1844, Green & Republic Streets, originally German, closed 1969 - records from 1845 to 1960 now at St. Francis Seraph.

St. Francis Seraph, organized 1858, 1615 Vine Street, originally German, records on site.

Hope this helps.
Does anyone know if there are any records for the burials for the old St. Peter's Cemetery? This was on Queen City, in South Fairmount, where St. Francis Hospital would eventually be built. I know the archdiocese had it closed in 1849, due to non Catholics being buried there and the Catholic burials were reinterred at St. Joseph Old. My relative's funeral mass was at St. John the Baptist Church, so there would be no record in the St. Peter's Church records. I've also searched the St. Joseph Old website but no luck there either. Any help would be appreciated.
